Police investigate long weekend assault and robberies

Regina police have responded to a number of incidents over the long weekend including two robberies.

Just after midnight Sunday, police were called to the 1000 block of Retallack Street for calls of an injured person.

A 36-year-old man was found with injuries consistent with an assault with a weapon. He was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

On Saturday, police responded to two robberies.

The first took place at around 9 p.m. when officers were called to the 2100 block of Albert Street.

Two men had entered a business with machetes and demanded money.

They took off on foot after getting an unknown amount of money.

No one was hurt during the incident.

The first suspect is described as Aboriginal, between 20 to 25-years-old and six feet tall. He was wearing a black shirt, glasses, with a red fabric covering his face while he carried a machete.

Police said the second suspect is also described as Aboriginal, between 20 to 25-years old and is between five feet ten inches tall to six feet tall. He was wearing glasses, a light colored fabric covering his face while he also carried a machete.

The second robbery happened Saturday in the 3800 block of Regina Avenue but police didn’t say what time.

In a media release, police said the victim was sitting in their car, parked on the side of the road when they were approached by a single suspect armed with a knife.

The suspect assaulted the victim and removed them from the vehicle before fleeing the area.

The victim only suffered minor injuries.

The suspect is described as an Aboriginal man, about five feet ten inches tall with a medium build. He was wearing glasses, a baseball hat, a red shirt and shorts and he was carrying a large stainless steel butcher knife.

Police continue to investigate all three cases.
