Soon Rider fans may be cheering for someone who was just inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
On Sunday, receiver Terrell Owens was trying out for head coach Chris Jones down in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
After the workout, which lasted more than an hour, Jones spoke with Stephen Hargis of the Chattanooga Time Free Press.
Jones said he wanted to see the 44-year-old in person after seeing some impressive video of Owens in the 40-yard dash.
“He looked in great shape,” said Jones. “So I thought I’m going to be home and he’s going to be home, so it gave us an opportunity to get him in front of us. He’s a physical presence. Now it’s just a matter of seeing if he’s in football shape.”
Hargis also spoke with Owens.
“I’m hoping they like what they saw,” said Owens. “I know I can still play the game. If anybody can be the first inducted into the Hall of Fame and come back and play, why not? Why not me?”
Owens was selected 89th overall in the third round of the 1996 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers.
He played eight seasons with the 49ers, two with the Philadelphia Eagles and three with the Dallas Cowboys.
Owens finished his career playing one season each with the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals.
The six-time Pro Bowler finished with 15,934 receiving yards, 1,078 career receptions and 153 receiving touchdowns.
