Two charged after bear spray incident with police

Two men in Regina are facing charges after an incident involving a stolen car and an alleged assault on police officers with bear spray.

On Wednesday at around 6:30 p.m., police noticed two men in a vehicle matching the description of a stolen car from a residence in northwest Regina.

The vehicle was first spotted in the 1300 block of Grace Street. Police proceeded to follow the car, covertly, to the 1000 block of Edgar Street.

Eventually, the vehicle would park in a back yard.

One suspect from the car was arrested while the other suspect ran after setting off a can of bear spray at the three police officers.

Police were able to locate the second suspect a few minutes later. They found him on the roof of a nearby residence and he was taken into custody without further incident.

The second suspect was identified as the driver and was actually the subject of outstanding warrants. He was also in breach of several court-ordered conditions.

The first suspect was in breach of an undertaking and was in possession of a substance believed to be methamphetamine.

The canine unit was called out to help, but no contact was made with the suspect.

Both men are now facing a long list of charges.

A 32-year-old man is facing charges of possession of a prohibited weapon contrary to prohibition, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, carrying a concealed weapon, assault of a peace officer using a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, breach of undertaking and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

A 24-year-old man is also facing charges of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous person, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, breach of undertaking and possession of a scheduled substance.

Both men made their first appearance at Regina Provincial Court on Thursday.
