More adult players are now investing in the protective equipment.
The Regina Folk Festival (RFF) added a few things this year for guests to keep cool in record high temperatures, including a tent spraying misting water.
Friday’s high of 36.4 C beat the previous record for the same day in Regina in 1978 of 35.4 C, according to Environment Canada.
There were kids in their bathing suits, workers and even dogs taking advantage of the misting station.
Tim Philp visited the tent regularly as he estimated his Mexican food truck was ten degrees warmer inside.
“(My coworkers and I) are rotating through the station, getting a little break, getting a little cooler,” he said, adding icy drinks are another necessity.
Dale Hassler said the misting station is helping him cool down because staying in the shade and having water available doesn’t quite cut it.
“When you have that danger of heat stroke, heat cramps, you definitely want somewhere that people can cool down,” said Hassler. “This sun is really unbearable today.”
RFF is reminding everyone the heat can be dangerous.
CEO Sandra Butel said their first aid staff have ties with EMS if needed.
