The Saskatchewan Roughriders have absolutely no chance of winning Sunday’s CFL game against the Calgary Stampeders.
Zero.
And when everybody thinks that, the Roughriders pull off an upset. Remember late in the 2016 season? The Roughriders had lost 10 of their first 11 games before reeling off four straight victories.
In 2017, they lost 30-15 to the B.C. Lions and nobody expected them to win the rematch. The Roughriders thumped B.C. 41-8, followed with a 54-13 beating of the Edmonton Eskimos and a 38-24 decision over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. A few weeks later they strolled into Calgary and upset the Stampeders 30-7 — to the surprise of virtually everyone! Did anyone predict the Roughriders starting this season by dumping the Grey Cup-champion Toronto Argonauts?
Since Chris Jones became Saskatchewan’s overseer of football operations, the Roughriders’ fortunes have been impossible to predict. Heck, their day-to-day roster moves are impossible to predict. Maybe that’s the idea, to keep everyone unsettled, and expect the unexpected.
