CFL, it’s time to lighten up.
Darvin Adams grabbed a camera from a TSN cameraman who ran onto the field to get footage of the team’s celebration after a touchdown. Adams instead wanted to take over the camera work.
It was not penalized but the CFL now says it should have been under the rule that does not allow props in celebration.
But Adams didn’t mean any harm, it wasn’t taunting. It was fun, unique, and spontaneous.
Also this weekend we did see a penalty for a touchdown celebration when Duke Williams and a few teammates crawled through advertising boards at the back of the end zone. Again, spontaneous and no harm. Yet, the flag flew.
Please, CFL. Don’t turn into the No Fun League. Last year the Riders had orchestrated and rehearsed celebrations. People had a good time watching what they’d come up with next.
So stop penalizing fun and allow the players to entertain, because that’s why we’re watching.
