Here’s one way the CFL is superior to the NFL: The Canadian Football League listens to its fans.
When fans and media complained the league was too stringent about players celebrating touchdowns, the CFL relaxed its rules and will allow players to enjoy spontaneous celebrations, even allowing props that haven’t been intentionally stashed somewhere near the end zone. There are some guidelines, including forbidding anything obscene or pantomiming a weapon. But it’s a good rule change and will allow players to crawl through advertising signs, grab a TSN camera or jump into a nearby motorboat.
The CFL also responded to complaints about the over-abundance of video reviews and midway through last season reduced coaches’ challenges to one per game.
Meanwhile, the NFL ignores pleas to properly define a catch, allow aggressive tackles and make the kicking game relevant again. Sometimes the fans know best.
