Two men who Saskatoon police say are members of a local motorcycle club have pleaded not guilty to gun and drug charges in connection to last year’s Project Forseti drug raid.
Justin Smith, 33, and Mark Michael Nowakowski, 46, were charged in January 2015 after police services across the province targeted members of the Fallen Saints and Hells Angels motorcycle clubs. Police said Nowakowski is the Fallen Saints president, and Smith belongs to the club.
In Saskatoon Provincial Court on Tuesday, Nowakowski’s lawyer entered not guilty pleas on four counts of contravention of storage regulations of a firearm, one count of careless use of a firearm, five counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm and one count of possession of a controlled substance.
Smith’s lawyer entered not guilty pleas on six counts of drug trafficking, three counts of possession of property obtained by crime, five counts of failing to comply with bail conditions and one count of trafficking weapons.
Provincial court trial dates of have been tentatively set for later this year. So far only one man arrested as a result of Project Forseti, 44-year-old Armand Hounjet, has been committed to trial at Saskatoon Court of Queen’s Bench.
Pleas have not yet been entered in connection to the latest batch of organized crime charges that were laid in December 2015 against Nowakowski, Smith, Hounjet and four other men.
