Construction on Hwy 11 causing major delays

Drivers in Saskatchewan traveling between Regina and Saskatoon this weekend may have run into long delays near Chamberlain.

Paving construction on Highway 11 is said to be the cause of major delays around the community.

Glen Reimer was driving home to Regina from Saskatoon when he hit the construction about two kilometres north of Chamberlain.

“We all started getting out of our cars, everybody’s looking. I was going to grab my bag of cookies out of the back that I baked and start sharing. I should have filled up with coffee in Davidson,” he said.

It took Reimer and his wife an hour and 40 minutes to make it to the other side of the town.

“There’s kilometres and kilometeres and kilometres and kilometres of cars waiting,” he said.

When they finally got through Chamberlain, Reimer said he got back up to the posted speed limit, but was passed by drivers trying to make up for lost time.

“How do you not speed going home?” he asked.

“It doesn’t make any sense, somebody’s got to put complaints in, cause that’s not how it was done when I was younger,” Reimer said.

He said there used to be a control car that would shuttle cars from one side before turning around and shuttling cars from the other side.

“Not here, you wait and you wait and you wait. There’s a lot of mad people, I talked to two or three people … and they’re just shaking their heads,” Reimer said.

Some of the people who spoke with Reimer said they had missed out on some family events and appointments because of the delay.
