If they’re not competitive again in the next three years, General Manager Ross Atkins says he’d be disappointed.
‘Disappointed’ would be a good word to describe the fans thoughts on the new regime in Toronto, who have shaved down the Jays roster in preparation of a surge of top prospects moving up to the big leagues. The most talked about are third baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and shortstop Bo Bichette.
The Jays ranked ninth according to MLB Pipeline to start the season and moved up to fourth at mid-season.
They have strong pitching prospects to combine with some young arms still in the rotation if they can ever stop getting blisters.
If you look at the build of recent champions like Kansas City or Houston it was some short-term pain for short-term gain. Three years? It’ll be interesting to see how patient Jays fans will be, although knowing you’ll actually see some of these big-name prospects in the majors next season gives us reason to tune in to watch another losing season.
