We are seeing a tale of three holdouts.
In Los Angeles, defensive star Aaron Donald got paid to stay with the Rams and wreak havoc on quarterbacks. His teammates celebrated his return and all was well in Ram land.
In Oakland, the Raiders bailed on Khalil Mack. They were unwilling to pay up and traded him for two first round picks to Chicago where he signed a deal that made him the number one paid defensive player in the NFL. Raider nation and the players were not impressed Mack was moved.
Now in Pittsburgh, we are seeing an entirely different result with running back Le’Veon Bell. Bell still isn’t reporting while the team gets set for game one and his teammates aren’t holding back to the media. His offensive linemen are noting his salary and their effort to get him that money. They’re also warning that his backup James Conner could be the next star.
It’s the gamble you take with a hold out. You stay, you get traded or you burn bridges. Either way, though all three will get the money they desire.
