A warning about a man trying to lure a child with candy in north Regina is spreading quickly through social media this week.
Regina police confirm they received a report earlier this week of a suspect trying to lure a child in the Lakeridge neighbourhood around Theresa Stevenson Park.
The original Facebook post was shared by the Lakeridge Neighbourhood Watch public Facebook group on Wednesday, describing an incident on Tuesday after school.
A boy was riding his bike when a man driving a red car allegedly approached him and asked if he wanted candy. When the boy said nothing, the man allegedly chased him on foot for a short distance. When the boy met a friend in the park, the man and the car were gone.
The incident was reported, but Regina Police Service did not put out a public alert.
A communications person with RPS said that the police only share this type of information with the general public if they believe there is immediate danger.
Calls to request more information about the investigation and an explanation for why police chose not to alert the public were not returned by the end of the day Thursday.
