Regina woman in Belgium says she feels 'secure'

A Regina woman living just outside of Brussels says despite Tuesday’s terrorist attacks in the city, it’s business as usual in her community.
 
Tammy Schneider’s husband works for the Canadian military at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE NATO). The couple is from Regina but currently resides in Casteau, Belgium.
 
“The mood is: we’re not going to let terrorists dictate how we’re going to live. We’re going to continue to travel, we’re going to continue to live our daily lives, our kids are going to continue to go to school,” Schneider said on Gormley Tuesday.

The only noticeable difference is that there are now armed guards at the military base, Schneider said.

While she couldn’t comment on what’s happening in the capital, Schneider said everyone has to be smart about where they travel.
 
“I know that certain areas in Brussels, it’s known as an active community of terrorists, basically. So we just know to stay away from certain areas,” she said.
