The $20 million annual cost will come from what the NDP calls “cutting Sask Party waste” and redirecting the dollars.
NDP leader Cam Broten will also regulate minimum care standards so families know what they can expect for their loved ones.
“Fundamentally this is about seniors who built this province, seniors who have contributed so much receiving dignity and respect,” Broten told reporters in a Regina home belonging to a supporter. “When we have stories of people being forced to go to the bathroom in their bed because there no one is there to help them to a toilet, that is not right. We have to do better.”
The Saskatchewan Party has pledged to shave $7.5 million from health regions’ administrative costs and redirect that to long-term care homes.
