While baseball does a lot of things wrong, what is happening today is what they do right.
Tiebreaker games. Let the two teams decide who advances rather than a series of tiebreaking formats like the NHL or NFL that goes to records against each other, or how many points they score, or strength of schedule, or in hockey if they win more games in regulation or overtime.

While I still can’t believe 162 games couldn’t decide the division, a tiebreaker format as simple as this one leaves the best kind of drama.
One game to move into the National League Divisional Series or lose and you’re playing again Tuesday for your life in the wild-card game.
While the losers won’t be eliminated, but rather drop to the wild-card game makes these games a little less dramatic, as nobody’s season is on the line. I’d rather see the team decide it on the field than wait for the mathematician to tell us who is the better team.
