The simple words Johnny or Manziel or Johnny Football get people fired up, especially after the praise Manziel was receiving on TSN for his two touchdown performance.
TSN’s highlights of a 34-29 win by the Roughriders was three minutes documenting the four highlight reel plays Manziel made.
Not one highlight showcased Zach Collaros’ 394 yards passing, Tre Mason’s bulldozing touchdown run, or any actual footage of the Roughriders offence doing anything. It was all Johnny all the time.
Even on the Green Zone, people were so sick of hearing about Johnny Manziel from Sunday’s game, they called up the show to … talk about how much they hate hearing the name Johnny Manziel.
Some defended the coverage, acknowledging if it gets eyes on the game from the centre of the universe who seem indifferent to the CFL product, the better.
Whether you like or not, and many don’t, Johnny Manziel has been the biggest story of the 2018 season. And you’ll likely have to wait to the playoffs until you get a break because that is one place Johnny won’t be making headlines this season.
