Kevin Goforth is appealing his sentence in the death of a four-year-old girl and the bodily harm of a two-year-old girl.
Several local media outlets are reporting that he filed a short handwritten notice of appeal on Thursday.
Kevin Goforth was sentenced to 15 years in prison on March 4 after being convicted of manslaughter on Feb. 6. It was one of the harshest sentences for manslaughter in Saskatchewan history. Typical sentences for manslaughter range from 30 months to eight years, but 15 years is closer to a normal sentence for second-degree murder.
The appeal comes two days after his wife, Tammy Goforth filed an appeal of her convictions for second-degree murder and unlawful bodily harm.
The two girls were in the care of Tammy and Kevin Goforth when the four-year-old girl died in the summer of 2012.
