A Moose Jaw woman is getting a lot of support in asking for a local city councillor to resign.
Jody Chell started a petition calling on Brian Swanson to resign from council after a recent controversy involving the Downtown Facility and Field House (DFFH) board, which includes Mosaic Place and the Yara Centre.
The city won’t say exactly what happened, just calling it a personnel issue. However, there have been other media reports indicating it involved sexual harassment.
Three councillors were disciplined over the incident. Swanson got the harshest punishment because he allegedly took home confidential records from Mosaic Place.
Swanson was banned from having further private access to confidential reports and he won’t be able to be named Deputy Mayor or chair of any committee, and will not be able to be on any boards or advisory committees for the rest of his term which is about two years.
On the petition, Chell quoted the bylaw against removing confidential documents, indicating that’s why she is singling him out.
The petition asks for him to step down on or by October 15th, two days before a by-election in Moose Jaw. By Tuesday morning more than 600 people had signed the petition.
