Volcanic ash from Alaska cancels some flights out of Regina

Ash from the Pavlov Volcano in Alaska is causing problems for Regina travellers.

WestJet has cancelled flights out of Regina to Calgary, Edmonton and Toronto Wednesday morning.

On Tuesday night three other flights were cancelled and an Air Canada flight was delayed.  Passengers say they were told it was because of volcanic ash in the flight paths.

One passenger said he was told the plane was grounded in Alaska and couldn’t get here.

Most flights arriving in Regina are on time.

Airline travellers are advised to check the status of their flights online at yqr.ca.

WestJet tweeted that the volcanic ash is actually hanging around Regina, and that is causing problems for flights around the Queen City.

Pavlof Volcano is one of Alaska’s most active volcanoes. It erupted at 4 p.m. on Sunday, spitting out a cloud of ash that rose to 20,000 feet.
