Regina shoppers intrigued by Save-on-Foods franchise

Shoppers are busy checking out the newest grocery store in Regina.

Save-on-Foods is now open on Albert Street south, where the old Canadian Tire was formerly located.

The B.C.-based grocery store chain officially opened its doors to the public Friday. It will hold a grand opening on Saturday.

It didn’t take long for the parking lot to fill up with those interested in taking a look at the new store, which offers the option of ordering online.

“I thought it was actually quite a good grocery store. The things that I liked was some of the fresh sausage, the fresh baking. I liked the selection of the misfit food as well, just having that option,” said one woman.

“I used to shop at this store where I lived before, so I’ve always been pretty happy with it,” said another woman, who used to live in Lethbridge.

Many were impressed with the layout, when they weren’t bumping elbows with others.

“It’s all right. It’s crowded right now but that’s to be expected. It’s kind of Regina’s newest tourist attraction right now,” said one man.

Customers seemed to be split on the prices. Some were intrigued by the deals and insisted they’d be keeping a close eye on the flyers. Others weren’t so sure there were significant savings over competitors.

However, most said they’d come back again.

The store marks the first of a number of new locations planned in Saskatchewan in the near future.  More stores are planned in Regina, along with Saskatoon, Moose Jaw and Yorkton.
