A few dozen people, mostly teenagers, gathered in Regina’s Grassick Playground Sunday to honour a 16-year-old girl killed in a home, just across the street, a week before.
While standing in a circle, many of the girl’s family and friends held hands as they shared their memories of her. In between light chuckles and sniffles, they spoke of the teen’s love of spicy food, volleyball and make up.

“My daughter needs justice and I’m going to fight until she gets it,” the girl’s mother proclaimed, before the group began marching the perimeter of the park.
Led by a woman holding a flag with the words “missing and murdered Indigenous women,” the group chanted of justice for a loved one lost too soon.
The girl died in a home in the 900 block of Cameron Street on Oct. 14, during what relatives tell 980 CJME they believe was a house party.
Police haven’t released details on how she died, just that they were initially called to the house over weapons.
Her death is Regina’s fifth homicide this year.
A 15-year-old boy is facing second-degree murder charges in the girl’s death. He will make his second appearance in Youth Court on Friday for a bail hearing.
“I understand that they want to rehabilitate youth, but how many chances are they going to get?” the girl’s mother asked while speaking to the mourners. “I get inter-generational trauma — I get it all. But when is enough enough?”
