Golfers enjoy 1st day of the season at Regina course

The grass was still a little bit yellow, the wind was whipping around, and people had to walk around a few lingering piles of snow – but golfers were out with smiles on their faces for the first day of golf this year.

The Tor Hill Golf Course opened for the season on Saturday at 10 a.m., and there were already almost a dozen vehicles in the parking lot at that time.

Cam Teichrob is an avid golfer. He said that it looked like it was going to be a nice day, so why not get out.

“Normally you’re probably looking at mid-to-late April (to golf) … probably one of the earlier years in probably the last 10, might as well make it memorable.”

Talha Sajjad seemed to be in a good mood as he hauled his clubs out of his car. He said he was excited for the start of the season. Sajjad is originally from Pakistan, so he’s used to golfing year-round.

“So golfing only four months out of the year is kind of hard for me, but it’s nice to be out here April second.”

Sajjad is a member at the Royal Regina course and usually golfs there, but Tor Hill was the first open this year.

It ended up being a good day for golfers, with the high reaching about 21 C in Regina.
