A sellout, Malcolm Jenkins is not.
It’s tough to watch as the men who led the charge to protest systemic racism and mistreatment of African American men by police are now publicly fighting.
Eric Reid, who was found on a knee with his teammate Colin Kaepernick, called Jenkins a sellout and a neo-colonialist after Sunday’s game between the Panthers and Philadelphia Eagles.
Reid believes Jenkins is now profiting off the back of the campaign Kaepernick started.
The Philadelphia Eagles veteran has been working with the NFL’s newly formed Players Coalition which has taken $90 million from the league that is going to organizations combating exactly what Kaepernick and Reid are protesting. Good, right?
Evidently not. Reid calls the Players Coalition an NFL funded subversion group. Formed only to stop the protests and bad press.
Which is a little rich.
Jenkins has done nothing but try to build bridges, and meet with owners, governments, police. Because he doesn’t raise a fist during the anthem anymore doesn’t mean he’s a sellout.
Jenkins, meanwhile, stayed respectful to his critics. Respectful dialogue is the only way forward. Name calling only distracts from the ultimate goal.
