RCMP find remains, vehicle linked to missing Carlyle woman

While police haven’t officially confirmed the identity of the person found dead near a vehicle discovered on Monday, the investigation revealed the vehicle was one that was being operated by a woman who has been missing since June 18.

The vehicle was found around 1 p.m. in a bush on a rural property near Bangor, Sask. — located about 45 kilometres southeast of Melville.

Ruby Barnes, 64, was reported missing from the Carlyle area after going to the Credit Union to pay bills.

She hadn’t been seen or heard from since then.

Her daughter had spoken to 980 CJME in July about the ongoing search efforts to find her.

The preliminary investigation determined a single vehicle travelling on a remote gravel road appeared to have gone through a T-intersection and into dense bush and was not immediately visible from the road.

Police said an autopsy, including a comparison of dental records and possibly DNA, must be completed before the remains can be identified.

Police said the family of Barnes has been notified and the investigation is ongoing. The death is not considered suspicious.

The Facebook group called “Bring Ruby Home” posted a status update on Wednesday.
