One week off will help the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Two weeks off would be better, particularly if quarterback Zach Collaros needs some recovery time.
Collaros absorbed a helmet-to-helmet hit during the first quarter of Saskatchewan’s 35-16 victory over the B.C. Lions. The high, illegal hit from Odell Willis somehow went un-penalized until Roughriders coach Chris Jones requested a video challenge. Just as unbelievable was the negligence of the CFL concussion spotter, who somehow allowed Collaros to remain in the game for two more plays.
Brandon Bridge was ineffective in relief of Collaros, so for the good of the team its starter needs this upcoming bye week to recover from an injury that very well could be another concussion. With their 12-6 record, the Roughriders could place first in the West and get another bye week. Collaros’ status won’t be revealed for at least another week, but every day will help.
