Watching Calgary eviscerate the B.C. Lions on Saturday, the Stampeders showed they’re ready to defend their West championship against whoever comes out of Sunday’s semifinal between the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and hometown Roughriders.
The Blue Bombers aren’t slouches, either. And are the Roughriders going to have their starting quarterback, Zach Collaros, ready to play?
Collaros made a promotional appearance on the weekend, lending credence to the notion that he isn’t suffering concussion symptoms from the head shot he absorbed in Saskatchewan’s last game. But the Roughriders also announced the signing of quarterback Drew Tate, an eight-year veteran who actually began his CFL career with Saskatchewan. Tate hasn’t played since leaving the Ottawa Redblacks in the offseason. Tate’s signing is either a smokescreen, a long-term plan or an immediate necessity. If it’s a necessity, the Roughriders are in trouble.
