The $1.33M rent reduction comes from what the club owed during seasons impacted by the pandemic.
Academic staff at the University of Regina have voted to give their union a strike mandate.
The academic staff bargaining unit of the University of Regina Faculty Association saw 87.4 per cent of members cast ballots in favour of a strike mandate.
“Overwhelmingly, our members have signaled that they do not accept the unworkable proposals that have been put forward by University management,” Faculty Association President Sylvain Rheault said in a news release.
A strike mandate does not mean a strike is imminent. Rather, a strike is now an option for the bargaining unit to use.
The association said outstanding issues include job security for sessional instructors, protecting the academic mission of the university, maintaining the collegiality of performance review and tenure decisions and compensation that keeps pace with the rate of inflation.
Negotiations between the association and the university have been ongoing since April 2018 with the last deal expiring in June 2017.
Rheault noted several bargaining dates are scheduled, and students can expect to finish the fall semester without interruption.
