The Commissioner of the CFL, Randy Ambrosie, told the Green Zone Monday that there is a chance, although it may be slight, that the league will do something so what happened to the Riders in consecutive games doesn’t happen in the final three games of the playoffs.
Both Brandon Bridge and Zach Collaros took headshots that were not called by the officials.
In one case, Chris Jones used a challenge for roughing the passer on Collaros and got it right.
On Sunday, Bridge was being attended to by Rider personnel. And because Jones had used his only challenge earlier, he could do nothing. The officials back in Toronto could all see it was a helmet to helmet hit and they could do nothing.
The ridiculous thing here is, there is a video official who is allowed to change the spot of the ball, allowed to change offside to procedure or vice versa but they aren’t allowed to weigh in when a player is seemingly unconscious on the turf.
A simple change can be made, and should be made, no matter how reactionary it is. Keep it simple this final two weeks that only roughing the passer penalties or even hits to the head of quarterbacks be called by the video official.
Because there would be nothing more embarrassing for the reputation of the league to have another quarterback injured and no call be made when the replays show such a blatant foul occurred.
