Man faces 19 charges after police chase in SE Saskatchewan

A 28-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly hiding in an oilfield structure following a police chase in southeastern Saskatchewan.

Police were notified around 9:30 a.m. Sunday of a theft in progress in Creelman, with a witness reportedly catching a man attempting to steal fuel from a business.

Officers patrolled the area but the suspect vehicle was not found. Witnesses later saw the vehicle in an abandoned farm yard near Creelman and called police back to the area.

RCMP reported the vehicle was intercepted south of Creelman near Highway 13, but the driver allegedly sped off.

High speed and the suspect’s erratic driving reportedly caused police to pull back from chasing him due to safety concerns.

The suspect allegedly crossed several farmers’ fields and drove through fences causing property damage.

Additional witnesses and property owners told police the suspect’s vehicle was disabled and that the man had fled into a structure at a nearby oilfield.

Members of the Fillmore, Weyburn and Radville RCMP detachments, along with an RCMP canine unit, were dispatched to the area.

The man was eventually located and arrested without incident.

Police reported finding stolen property, firearms and illegal drugs. The man is facing 19 criminal charges and the investigation is ongoing.
