The Saskatchewan Airshow in Moose Jaw is preparing for takeoff this summer after a 14-year hiatus.
Col. Denis O’Reilly is a commander at 15 Wing Moose Jaw and told Regina Global News the show bring backs a sense of nostalgia for him.
“My parents had a farm just off the end of the runway and I used to ride my bike out to the airport in the summer time and grab a coke and help the pilots wash their aircraft and maybe hope to get a flight,” he said.
O’Reilly said he hopes the sound and sight of jets overhead sparks a love of aviation in the next generation just as it did for him.
“I just grew up hearing that noise all the time and looking up in the sky and just thinking that’s something that really cool men and women get to do,” he said.
The two-day show is expected to attract up to 30,000 visitors from out of town and will feature both civilian and military planes including the Snowbirds.
Lt.-Col. Mark French described flying in formation like driving in bumper-to-bumper traffic at 300 miles per hour.
“We absolutely have to trust each other, we hold ourselves accountable to each other, we can’t break that trust,” French said in an interview with Regina Global News.
The Saskatchewan Airshow is scheduled for July 6th and 7th.
