After a 24-year hiatus, Texas Longhorns are back at Agribition this week in Regina.
Among the bunch, stalled in the middle of the show’s Stock Exchange building, stands BN Jim Reeves — a 1,900-pound, light brown steer with a horn span of nearly 10 feet.
“He is the 10th biggest steer ever recorded, ever measured — from what I know,” said Kristopher Johnson, who travelled 11-plus hours from Big Horn, Wyo. to show his prize livestock.
While his trophy steer is a main attraction at this year’s Agribition, Johnson said it’s no different back in Wyoming.
“Even at home, we have five, six, seven different people stop every single day — just to take pictures,” he explained.
“Going down the road, you’re going to pass thousands of black cows and never look — but if you drive by a pasture full of these, a lot of people are going to turn their heads.”
Agribition’s Texas Longhorn event is on in the John Deere Sale Arena at Evraz Place Monday night, starting at 6 p.m.
BN Jim Reeves is expected to be in the show ring around 6:30 p.m.
“You never go to a place expecting to win, but — from what I know — he’s the only steer here, so we’re pretty positive he’ll place pretty well,” Johnson said.
