A 61-year-old man is dead after a semi rolled on Highway 9 between Kenosee and Carlyle early Friday morning.
RCMP report that there was sleet and snow falling when the semi slid off the highway around 4:15 a.m. The roads were very slick when the semi rolled and ended up in a slough along the highway. When police arrived they saw that the cab of the truck was partially under water.
The 61-year-old driver who died at the scene was from Spy Hill, Saskatchewan.
Two pick-up trucks stopped on the side of the road as the drivers rushed to try to help. At that point, another semi lost control and hit the empty trucks on the road, but fortunately no one was hurt in that crash.
The local RCMP officers had help from members of the Carlyle Fire Department to redirect traffic. Highway crews kept the road clear by salting and plowing, while a local farmer assisted by emptying the trailer and hauling away the from the semi trailer.
The scene was cleared and the highway re-opened in the middle of the afternoon.
