Have no sympathy for Jonathan Rose.
He’s the Ottawa Redblacks defensive back, the idiotic defensive back, who should not be playing in Sunday’s Grey Cup game against the Calgary Stampeders.
During Ottawa’s last game, moments after he made a key interception and boasted about it on-camera, Rose made a dirty tackle that sparked a sideline altercation. During the tussle, Rose blatantly two-hand shoved an official into a pile of players.
Rose was assessed two penalties and ejected from Ottawa’s second-most important game of the year. After expediting its disciplinary decision, the CFL suspended Rose for its championship game. Rose promptly appealed and could actually play Sunday against the Calgary Stampeders.
In its press release explaining the suspension, the CFL sounded almost apologetic for protecting its on-field officials. It’s not the CFL who should be apologizing; it’s the players and fans who display disrespect for on-field officials, and the CFL Players’ Association, who appealed the ruling — that’s who should be apologizing.
