On a slippery sheet of ice, the Calgary Stampeders finally didn’t let one slip away in the Grey Cup.
The field may have been better suited for a Flames/Senators game rather than Stampeders/Redblacks but both teams had to play on it.
And both had their fair share of trips, slips and falls but it was Calgary who topped the league for the third consecutive year and heard all the naysayers say they won’t win the big game. Some said they couldn’t win the big game. And they knew they couldn’t go empty-handed again.
There was no way this time, they’d be compared to the Buffalo Bills.
Bo Levi Mitchell is now 2-2 in Grey Cup starts and Dave Dickenson has his first as a head coach. It seemed late in the year, the Stampeders were starting to show their cracks as they weren’t the unbeatable force.
But maybe they needed that late-season adversity. Something they never had the previous two trips to the Cup final.
To borrow the old cliché, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Well, the Stamps will tell you that’s exactly why they’re champions today.
