The sports world needs more players like Baker Mayfield.
The young Cleveland quarterback has made no bones about his dislike for former coach Hugh Jackson. The beef is due to Jackson’s immediate hiring by division rival Cincinnati after Cleveland fired him.
Mayfield believes Jackson was a fake for preaching team unity when he took the first job up after his dismissal, for a division rival, none the less.
Do I agree Mayfield should be as angry as he is? No. The Browns fired him. The Bengals hired him. That’s just a guy finding work as soon as possible, with a former employee as well. This is Jackson’s third stop in Cincy.
But Mayfield’s refreshing honesty is needed in sports entertainment. Hockey and football players don’t need to tear down opponents like boxing or UFC does to promote their fights, but a little more honesty is refreshing.
Mayfield promises he’ll continue to speak his mind because that’s who he is.
I hope he stays that way.
