Family, friends search for missing P.A. man

Generations of family members came together Sunday to begin a substantial search for a man who’s been missing more than week.

Gilbert McCallum Jr, 21, was last seen on Friday, April 15 in Prince Albert and his Facebook account was deactivated a week later.

On Sunday, nearly 40 friends and family members came together at the South Hill Mall to start their search inside and outside of Prince Albert.

Gilbert’s mother, Kathy McCallum, was visibly distraught. She said she was desperate to see her son again and has been struggling to sleep since he went missing.

“I just want some answers. I’m just really tired and I want to know where my son is,” she said.

McCallum said she was overwhelmed with how many people came to help search for her son.

“I appreciate it so much, I don’t know what I would do without all of them here.”

Gilbert’s aunt, Eleanor Stonestand, described him as “quiet and respectful.”

She said the family gathered for the search because his disappearance is worrisome, and they do not want to give up hope of finding him.  

“We are all feeling very lost ourselves; I think we just need some kind of answers. We are all feeling unsettled because a part of us is missing,” she said.

“Family is very, very important to us, and he is a very important part of our family. We are a very big, close family and when one of us is hurting, or missing or whatever, we all feel it.”

The family said they did not want to speculate on the circumstances of his disappearance. They did mention it was highly unusual for him to not speak to any family members, which prompted them to start the search.

The search will trace the outer limits of the city.

Prince Albert Police Service are still asking for the public’s help in locating Gilbert. He is described as Aboriginal, five feet ten inches tall, 140 lbs with short black hair and brown eyes.
