A 37-year-old Regina man has been sentenced to six months in jail in connection with a hit-and-run that killed an Ontario man on a bicycle.
Regina police charged Elijah Beros in connection to the crash on Ross Avenue on Jan. 29, 2017 that killed Jamie Gallon.
The provincial court justice also ordered Beros to a one-year driving probation.
At the time of the charges, Regina police said the collision was an accident, as Gallon was cycling at night in dark clothing.
“It’s still wrong. You took a life. There should be consequences,” Gallon’s sister Brenda Spencer told 980 CJME days after the crash. “It could be the one time he didn’t have something (reflective) or bright on, but this shouldn’t have happened. He (Beros) shouldn’t have fled the scene.”
Gallon’s family was able to raise enough money to bring his body home to Ontario.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Earlier information provided by provincial court incorrectly stated Beros was sentenced to probation. Provincial court has now clarified the sentence was six months in jail.
