Hundreds of toys expected for Santas Anonymous wrap day

The Regina Food Bank will be a hub of activity Saturday with hundreds of volunteers set to play the role of Santa’s elves by helping wrap presents for Santas Anonymous.

The yearly toy drive is meant to help ensure every child gets an opportunity to wake up with presents under the tree.

The Salvation Army’s Val Wiks joined The Greg Morgan Morning Show Friday.

She said while they won’t be able to help out as many families as they normally do, they will still be providing presents for over 1,400 children.

“I think we rival the North Pole, it looks awesome. There’s lots of toys,” Wiks said.

She said the biggest age group they needed toys for was three to eight-year-olds and they will probably need to go out and buy a few more toys for that group.

A small army of volunteers will be working hard throughout Saturday morning to  make sure every present is properly wrapped and ready for delivery.

“Last year it was actually like a Tim Horton’s drive-thru, cars were lined up on Winnipeg Street coming into the food bank and there was people everywhere,” Wiks said. “Every flat surface, they were wrapping toys.”

She said they supply all the wrapping supplies but people are welcome to bring their own as well.

“If you want to come and wrap for one family, that’s awesome. If you want to come and spend the whole day, you’ll be home by noon.”

The day gets underway at 8 a.m.
