The Snowbirds’ planes weren’t the only things flying around south of Moose Jaw on Friday – love was in the air as well.
As a part of the Snowbirds’ Home Opener Show at 15 Wing Moose Jaw, Snowbirds’ 6 outer right wing Greg Hume-Powell proposed to his girlfriend, Emily Simpson, while flying in the show just before a heart formation was done.
“(I) did it during the heart,” Hume-Powell said. “And had a piece of paper so I wouldn’t forget what to say. But we had about 30 seconds of time, and I was able to get it out, while wiping away the sweat, and get the proposal out. And it sounded like the answer was yes because she’s sitting here with a ring on now.”
Simpson said that she had no idea that he going to propose at all. She had joked that she’d told him before to never ask during an air show, but went out to greet his plane on the runway when it landed so she could tell him yes in person.
“It’s kind of full circle,” Simpson said. “I mean, the Forces in general have been a big part of our family, and now that I’m actually apart of the Forces makes it even better.”
The couple said that a wedding date will take awhile to plan as they have to work it around the Snowbirds’ 2016 show schedule.
