A quick transaction turned into a fast dash for cash when two women were robbed at ATMs in Saskatoon over the weekend.
Police said around 9 p.m. Saturday, a woman reported being approached by a stranger while at an ATM in the 2400 block of 22nd Street West.
The man was allegedly armed with a screwdriver and demanded money. The victim refused and a struggle ensued before the suspect fled.
The victim was not injured.
Police describe the suspect as a white man, 40-50 years old, around 150 pounds and five feet five inches in height.
He was wearing light-coloured denim pants and a navy hoodie.
A second incident took place around 11:20 a.m. Sunday in the 400 block of Circle Drive East.
According to police, a woman was at an ATM when a man approached her, claimed to have a gun and asked for money.
Once again, the victim refused and struggled with the suspect before he fled on foot.
A second man arrived at the ATM and started chasing the man; however, the suspect escaped on foot.
Police describe the suspect as a white man, around 40 years old with a medium build and short reddish-brown hair. The man was wearing jeans and a green hoodie at the time.
The victim was not injured.
Saskatoon police said victims have a better chance of minimizing danger by complying with a suspect’s demands. Officers also recommend victims avoid a physical confrontation if at all possible.
