Anyone who needed a hot meal was welcome to Souls Harbour Rescue Mission’s annual Christmas dinner on Friday.
It was a change in venue this year to the soup kitchen’s brand new four storey Gerri Carroll Hope Centre on Angus Street.
“Our Christmas meal is always fantastic and this just is a big bow wrapped around the building for us,” said Deana Struble, Marketing Manager.
The building replaces the old soup kitchen with all of the meals being served from the new location going forward.
Souls Harbour relies on donations to serve up its Christmas meal, which needed 60 turkeys, 40 hams, 200 pounds of potatoes and dozens upon dozens of buns. They expected to serve between 400 and 500 people.
“Being able to supply that and do it through love and the Christmas spirit is just so incredibly overwhelming at times,” said Struble.
Approximately 90 volunteers were busy cooking in the kitchen, pouring coffee and bringing the plates full of food to their guests. For Coby Gerolami, it was her first time helping out with the Christmas dinner.
“It’s really nice to see the smile on their faces and just say Merry Christmas,” said Gerolami.
