Regina police now say they believe a suspect who shot two men at the Pump Roadhouse bar knew one of the victims.
So far, no arrests have been made in the shooting that happened around 1:10 a.m. on Friday at the nightclub on Victoria Avenue East.
The Regina Police Service (RPS) released an update on Tuesday afternoon, saying several officers are dedicated to the investigation and they are still searching for one male suspect.
A 35-year-old man is still being treated for his injuries but the second shooting victim, a 22-year-old man, has been released from the hospital.
On Friday, witnesses who were at the bar that night described the scene in vivid detail to News Talk Radio.
When police officers arrived, the secured the scene and gathered statements from as many people as they could, although some people had already left the bar.
Police are still asking for anyone with information to come forward, but say it’s important not to release any other details of the investigation to the public in order to “achieve a successful conclusion”.
Shooting not raising alarm for Regina mayor
It may have generated a lot of headlines and talk on social media, but Regina’s mayor isn’t overly concerned about the shooting at the Pump Roadhouse Friday.
Calling the shooting a serious incident, Mayor Michael Fougere hopes people put what happened into context.
“We have a safe city but things do happen, crime does happen,” he explained.
As for concerns that Regina police are not addressing the public to allay any fears, Fougere argues they’re focusing on the investigation at hand.
“It isn’t withholding information because they don’t want to talk about it, they want to, first and foremost, investigate and not compromise the investigation,” Fougere maintained.
He adds he has complete confidence in Regina police to solve the crime.
