Regina police investigating death on Elphinstone Street

Neighbours are recounting the graphic aftermath of an incident Tuesday evening when a 37-year-old man died in hospital after being found injured right in front of their homes in North Central Regina.

Regina police were called to the 1300 block of Elphinstone Street around 7:35 p.m. after receiving a call about an injured person. The man was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead. After notifying family members, police have now identified the man as Wilburn Albert Campbell of Regina.

“He was laying there and he looked like he was bleeding out completely. There was blood all over,” said Marcia Reed, who lives in the house just steps away from where the man was found.

“It was a horrific sight.”

Police have launched a death investigation.

A few people living in the neighbourhood believed he was the victim of a stabbing, although police have not confirmed those details.

Chelsea Schick was making supper when sirens grabbed her attention. She looked outside to see what all the commotion was and saw a number of police and emergency personnel, along with a man on the sidewalk.

“[There were] cop cars outside and the cop was like doing CPR on him for like 10 minutes,” she recalled vividly, as it was still light out at the time of the incident.

The Sacred Heart Community School is directly across the street.

Reed has two young kids and is now rethinking where they live after eight years because she’s concerned about their safety.

“I think we’re looking at moving soon. It just seems like, in the last little while, it’s getting worse and like I said, it could happen anywhere but when you really look at the facts it’s happening down here,” she explained.

“We do love our home but we have to think of our kids and I don’t want them to be around stuff like this.”

Nobody has been charged yet.

Police say the coroner has ordered an autopsy to determine the cause and circumstances of his death.
