Jamie Nye: Steelers mess as much on Tomlin as players

The Pittsburgh Steelers mess is a leadership problem more than it’s an individual problem.

First this season, it was Le’Veon Bell sitting out in a contract dispute with the team and now we’re seeing Antonio Brown on his way out in a disagreement and seemingly ego-driven rift with the coach, organization and some teammates.

But when you see this much dysfunction in an organization, don’t and go point your finger first at Bell or Brown. The reason for the dysfunction goes higher than that.

You see there were cracks last season when Mike Tomlin held his team in the locker room in the midst of the anthem issue and one player, a former military member, felt he had to stand at attention. He felt embarrassed to seemingly show up his teammates but he shouldn’t have.

His coach put him in an awful situation.

Tomlin is described as a player’s coach but clearly he’s too lenient.

And now the team is out two of the most talented players in the league. Some tough love was needed much earlier than now to control egos and that’s on the head coach.
