A Saskatoon man is taking a hit to the wallet for stealing a megaphone from a WestJet plane last year.
A lawyer for Jake Michael Piasentini entered a guilty plea to a charge of possessing stolen property on his client’s behalf Thursday in Saskatoon Provincial Court.
The charge stemmed from a Jan. 12, 2015 incident. Police were called out to the Saskatoon airport after cabin crew noticed the megaphone was missing from the plane’s kitchen area.
The flight, which had arrived in Saskatoon from Toronto, was delayed for an hour as officers came aboard and threatened to search every carry-on bag on the plane to find the megaphone.
Jake Michael Piasentini, who was 29 at the time, came forward and admitted to taking it. He appeared in court the next day. At that time, the Crown noted that alcohol was a factor in the theft.
Piasentini was originally charged with the theft, and a charge of mischief over $5000 due to the delay he caused to the flight. That mischief charge was dropped.
A judge fined Piasentini $5,000 for the theft.
