What exactly is it like to be behind the wheel of a monster truck?
“It is just amazing. The sheer power and torque of that truck is second to none,” said Ged Barcroft, his adrenaline still flowing after flattening a pair of cars in the parking lot of the Brandt Centre.
“You do tense up because you’re waiting for the inevitable.”
The demonstration was used to help promote the upcoming Monster Spectacular show in Regina Saturday night at 7 p.m.
The truck Barcroft was driving, called Bounty Hunter, has tires that stand taller than most people. And with 1,500 horsepower, it doesn’t take long to reduce a vehicle in its path to nothing more than a steel pancake.
The show will come with a certain level of unpredictability. Barcroft said it’s not like there’s a driver’s test or course before getting behind the wheel.
“It’s a learning curve. These trucks are so expensive you can’t practice. When you’re out in front of the crowds, that’s when you get to know what the truck can do,” he explained.
He considered himself an amateur driver compared to the world champions that’ll be driving in the show this weekend. Tricks, stunts, and races will all be featured in the cross-country event. The show will also include motocross motorcycles doing all kinds of maneuvers 30 feet in the air.
“You buy the whole seat but you only need the edge of it,” touted Barcroft.
