The Philippine terror group behind the beheading of Saskatchewan man John Ridsdel is giving another Canadian hostage one month to live.
The countdown was announced in a YouTube video by two surviving hostages held by Abu Sayyaf.
A gaunt-looking Robert Hall is shown pleading with governments to pay a $16-million ransom by June 13, or he will be killed.
The same plea is made by a hostage from Norway.
The video comes less than two weeks after the group released graphic footage of the beheading of fellow Canadian hostage Ridsdel.
Following the gruesome death, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reinforced Canada would not pay ransom to terror groups.
Trudeau also said his government will work with the government of the Philippines and international partners to pursue those responsible for the “heinous act.”
Philippine president elect Rodrigo Duterte told the hostages to say their prayers because he will never meet the group’s demands.
Hall and Ridsdel, along with two others, were kidnapped from their hotel beds last September.
The hostages were believed to have been taken to Jolo Island in Sulu, a jungled province where the militants are thought to be holding a number of captives.
Abu Sayyaf, which Canada and other western countries consider a terrorist organization, has relied on huge ransoms earned from kidnappings of mostly Western tourists and missionaries and extortion to survive for more than two decades.
The RCMP is conducting a criminal investigation into Ridsdel’s murder in the Philippines.
