Topsoil moisture has improved in Saskatchewan thanks to rain that hasn’t slowed down seeding.
The weekly crop report shows 51 per cent of the crop is in, ahead of the five-year average for this time o fyear of 28 per cent.
Most of the province saw rain over the last week, with some areas reaching amounts of nearly 100 millimetres. The report states that while some areas also saw frost, damage appears to be minimal.
The southwest is furthest ahead with 70 per cent of the crop in the ground. Next is the southeast at 64 per cent, the northwest at 56 per cent, west-central at 53 per cent, east-central at 30 per cent and 29 per cent in the northeast.
Moisture is still needed in some areas of the province, though 77 per cent is rated as accurate. Six per cent is rated as surplus, 13 per cent is short and four per cent is very short.
