More adult players are now investing in the protective equipment.
While Chris Jones followed his dream, leaving the CFL to take a senior position in the NFL, the New Orleans Saints and Kansas City Chiefs can only hope Jones brings some of the CFL’s rules with him.
Kansas City and fans were cheated out of seeing Patrick Mahomes get the ball in overtime. Like in Super Bowl 51, the Patriots called heads, won the coin toss and scored a touchdown. Mahomes and a tremendous offence wasn’t allowed to respond as they were throughout regulation.
In the CFL, both teams get the ball in overtime. Thank goodness.
For the Saints, they were screwed out of Super Bowl trip thanks to an official who missed not only pass interference but an illegal hit to the head late in the fourth quarter. They kicked a field goal on 4th down, instead of getting a first down and an opportunity to run out the clock for the win.
If only the NFL finally woke up and realized it’s time to give coaches and the booth power to overturn obvious misses by their officials.
In the CFL, Chris Jones was allowed a challenge in a Grey Cup, and it helped him win the game. Hopefully he can tell them about it so these bad rules get changed before next year’s playoffs are impacted by them.
