The Saskatchewan Party continues to remain the strong favourite in the province’s electoral environment, according to a new Mainstreet Research poll.
The poll released Wednesday shows the Sask. Party has 55.8 per cent of support from decided and leaning voters — a lead of over 20 points compared to the NDP’s 32.6 per cent support rating.
“Given that the sentiment against the carbon tax is so high in Saskatchewan, it’s no surprise that Premier (Scott) Moe and his criticisms of the federal Liberal plan is translating into strong support for the Sask. party,” said Joseph Angolano, vice-president of Mainstreet Research.
The provincial Liberal party has 5.9 per cent support, while the Green Party has 2.8 per cent.
The NDP was the only party that saw an increase in support, gaining 2.3 per cent. The Sask. Party saw a decrease of 0.7 per cent, the Liberal party lost 0.9 per cent and the Green Party dropped 1.8 per cent.
Saskatchewan residents continue to favourably view Premier Moe, who has a strong net rating of +19.1 per cent. NDP leader Ryan Meili has a net rating of -4.5 per cent, but his ratings have been improving since August.
The poll results are based on a survey conducted from Jan. 14-15, 2019, among a sample of 830 adults living in Saskatchewan.
The sample frame was derived from random digit dialing and respondents were interviewed on landlines and cell phones.
The margin of error for the survey is +/- 3.4 per cent and is accurate 19 times out of 20.
